The Carleton

If I died tomorrow, I ‘d have one less X to mark on my bucket list. To come to Halifax and sing my songs in the best listening room in Canada is no small privledge and one for which I shall ever be gratetful. Very nervous at first (it took me about four songs to find my shy little voice) the audience were quick to set me at ease and I settled into my dream gig and time stood still. I felt like a bird over water. Floating on air. Transcendant.

After about 90 minutes (my set was supposed to be 60) I finally came out of my trance and walked off the stage into the warm arms of a very happy room.

Thank you all for granting me this great indulgence. Thanks especially to Louis, Janesta, Mike Campbell, Mike Greatorex, John Poirier, Andy Robicheau, Brian Buckle, and Jon Landry. I leave Halifax humbled and inspired and hope soon to return.

  1. I guess like they say, looks are deceiving. I would never have thought that you would be shy or nervous doing a show because you have always looked so confident & professional. You seem like a natural onstage & can interact with the audience so well. Just be yourself. Take it from someone that suffered many years from shyness, don’t let opportunities pass you by just because you’re feeling shy.

  2. This was a dream gig for me attend too! I have had one other opportunity to watch you (& the boys) perform from front & center (literally) in a more intimate setting (compared to the giant venues, where I’ve at least been as close as 9th row) at the Fredericton theatre. But I had not realized my friend would have reserved us seats at The Carleton butting up to the stage, immediately in front of you.

Yes, I was the silly girl with the brand new Nikon & a zoom lens taking photos that look like they were taken sitting in your lap. I didn’t want to drag the whole camera bag with me and came prepared to be sitting in a back corner somewhere. So I tried not to have the camera in your face too much, while I secretly was beside myself with the chance to experiment with my first DSLR camera on my favourite singer of my favourite band. :-D (I’d be happy to share the pix if desired).

I always felt you didn’t get enough of the lead vocals or chance to tell stories on stage, and when your solo album was announced I jumped for joy. The sound of these songs match your voice and are a pleasant (if not cheery ;) ) change from the kitchen party. :) You were a pleasure to be entertained by and the 90 minutes went by far too quickly.

I am dieing for the announcement of the next GBS Halifax date. But hope you’ll return to a venue near us for another solo performance someday soon!
